But… the glycemic load of watermelon is only 8. That makes it a very safe food. In fact, you could eat watermelon until you burst and it won’t make you fat. It may be a fast blood sugar trigger but the size of carbs per serving is very small.
Here’s how it breaks down: One cup of watermelon (154 grams) has only 11 grams of carbohydrate, giving it a low rating of 8.

It’s not all bad news… Ice cream, which also has a GI in the mid 60’s has a very low glycemic load – a harmless 4! That means that the amount of carbs you’re getting from ice cream – in spite of the sugar – is really very small.
If you want to indulge, ice cream is one of your safest bets. (In moderation, of course.)
